Help

How Field OP works, for the person running a campaign from this console and for the person knocking on doors with the app. Every page here describes what the product does today — not what is planned.

Pages

  • Getting startedField OP is where a campaign keeps the people it talks to and runs the work of talking to them. Managers work in this console; volunteers knock doors with the Field OP app on a phone. This page is the first half hour: how you sign in, how your organization came to exist, how everybody else gets in, and what each role can do.
  • People and importsThe people file is the campaign's own record of everybody it talks to. This page covers finding somebody, changing a record, bringing a list in from a spreadsheet, deciding the rows the import could not, and putting doors on the map.
  • Imports, custody and exports on a phoneBringing a file in, deciding its rows, keeping track of every copy and taking a file out all work on a phone now — in the Field OP app on iPhone and Android, in the app in a phone's browser, and in the console at a phone's width. The steps are the console's steps, with the same words and the same rules; this page says where they are and the few things a phone does differently.
  • FieldField is where a campaign turns a list of people into a day at the doors: the ground you cut, the days you plan, who walks which turf, and what comes back. This page follows that order.
  • Drawing turfTurf is drawn on a map of the real streets, with a finger or a mouse, on a computer, on a phone's browser, in the Field OP app, and in the app at `/m/`. The shape you draw is counted as you draw it — stops, eligible households and a time estimate — and cutting it fills the walk order in the same act. This page is how the drawing works, wherever you do it.
  • Shifts and follow-upsA shift is a window inside a canvass that people are asked to give: Saturday from ten to one. A follow-up is something the campaign owes somebody after a door: a lawn sign, a call back, a visit from the candidate. This page is how both are run — in the console, and on a phone in the Field OP app, where every one of these screens is too.
  • The phoneThe Field OP app is what a volunteer carries to the door. It holds one mission at a time, works without a signal, and sends what you recorded as soon as it can reach the campaign. This page is for the person knocking, and for the organizer who has to explain it to them.
  • Labels and what they meanField OP can guess some things about a person from their record — most often the language they are likely to speak. A guess is never a fact, it is never mixed in with the facts, and nobody at a door ever sees one. This page says how it is marked, who may read it, and how to correct it.
  • Privacy, do-not-contact and rights requestsTwo different things get confused here, so they are separated first. **The campaign** is responsible for the people in its file: what it collects, who may see it, and what it does when somebody asks to be left alone. **Field OP** is the software the campaign runs, and is responsible for the platform itself and for what it holds about the people who use it. The [privacy notice](/privacy) is the full version — the app carries it too, under **Settings → Privacy Notice**, readable with no signal — and this page is what to do in the product.
  • Billing and plansWhat your organization pays for, where the card lives, and what happens when a payment is missed. Everything on this page is the tenant administrator's; no other role sees the billing screen at all.
  • Getting helpWrite to [support@fieldop.ca](mailto:support@fieldop.ca). It reaches the people who build and run Field OP, and it is the only support address — there is no phone line and no chat window, and anybody who tells you otherwise is not us.

Can’t find it here?

Write to support@fieldop.ca. Support is one team, Monday to Friday during business hours Eastern, and we aim to answer within one business day. There is no published service-level agreement, and we would rather say so than imply one.

If you were canvassed by a campaign and want to know what it holds about you, that question goes to the campaign rather than to us. The privacy notice says why, and the pages above say how to ask.

Help for the version of Field OP deployed with this console. These pages are part of the product and change in the same release as the screens they describe, so what you read here is what this console does.
