Consent at the door

What it means when a volunteer writes down a resident’s e-mail address or phone number at the door — your organization’s rule, which applies to every campaign here.

The rule

Reading…

Reading your organization’s setting…

Either way, somebody who has asked your campaign not to contact them, or who is on a do-not-contact list, is not contacted because a volunteer wrote their details down — the earlier request always wins. They can ask the campaign to stop at any time.

Only an administrator of your organization can change this.

What the resident is shown

The volunteer reads these words aloud, or shows the resident the screen, beside the field they belong to:

“If you give me your e-mail address, the campaign I am canvassing for may e-mail you about the campaign. Giving it is how you agree to that. You do not have to give it, and you can ask the campaign to stop at any time.”
“If you give me your phone number, the campaign I am canvassing for may phone you or send you text messages about the campaign. Giving it is how you agree to that. You do not have to give it, and you can ask the campaign to stop at any time.”

The words are fixed and versioned: a changed sentence is a new version, and every consent record names the version it was given under.
